What is SR22 Insurance?

Technically, "SR22 insurance" isn't quite the right term for auto insurance with an SR22 filing attached. An SR-22 is a certificate of insurance — these days almost always filed electronically — that states you have auto coverage. It's commonly required after a DUI, DWI, or OVWI violation, or after an accident where you didn't have insurance.

If this is your first time shopping for an SR22, you may see it called "SR 22 car insurance" or "high-risk insurance." So when you say "SR22 insurance," what you're really telling the carrier is: you want a regular auto policy, plus an SR22 filing added to it.
